Binod Bhattarai, a Nepalese journalist and long-time friend of the J-School, will be speaking Thursday, June 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the library theater. Bhattarai will be speaking about a variety of issues confronting Nepal, everything from the recent earthquakes to issues in Nepalese society.
Bhattarai has extensive experience in international reporting and media consultation, including working for The Economist’s Intelligence Unit, as a consultant for United Nations Development Program in Nepal and a number of other Asian countries, and for most of Nepal’s major media outlets. Bhattarai is a specialist in conflictsensitive reporting, and most recently worked as a special correspondent in Kathmandu for the Financial Times during the earthquakes. He’s also a former STU J-School lecturer (2008) and is eager to re-connect with Shantou University and see the changes to the university over the last several years.
