De Li Bar: The Real Taste of Draft Beer
By Huang Xuming

Classical German country-style decoration, relaxing light music, and most importantly, the fresh beer that De Li Bar brews itself, make it stand out from the other pubs in Shantou.

“Customers find they can’t get used to other kinds of beer after they try fresh beer here,” Lu Yongqing, the founder of De Li Bar and a local beer lover, said. “They think only our draft beer can provide them with the strong beer flavor.”De Li Bar was opened shortly after Lu tasted fresh-brewed beer in Hong Kong 12 years ago. more

Where to Eat Now

The corn cakes at Ice City Dumpling Restaurant looks like a golden moon cut in four pieces. It has hot fresh corn smell and is full of egg yolk flavor.  When you bite into the corn cake with pork cracklings, it feels crisp outside and deep soft inside.

The taste is not too sweet for girls who like sweetmeats but are afraid of fat. Also, it is a bargain at only two yuan. Make sure to eat it while it is hot, because when it turns cold, it’s not soft inside any more.

Corn cakes reminds me of my mother’s Chinese New Year sweets. At the moment she finished cooking, me and my siblings invaded her kitchen like honeybees after honey. My mother’s sweets were pleasing, soft and sweet with a good smell that made everyone smile. Ice City corn cakes give me a feel like my mother’s cooking, warm and comfortable.
