(3) Have work experience in front-line teaching, scientific research, or production practice, and be in good health.
(4) Hold a doctoral degree. For much-needed talents who have procured formal teaching or research positions in overseas well-known universities, research institutions, or corporate R&D institutions, or have made outstanding achievements in business performance, or engage inresearch of key/core technologies in relation to integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and robotics, th erequirements for age and academic qualifications may be relaxed.
Emphasizing the pedagogical principles of “Internationalization, Practice-orientated Learning, and Perceptiveness”, the Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication has developed a comprehensive talent training system for journalism and communication. This system aligns with the principles of news dissemination and the growth pattern of talent. Drawing from China’s journalism and communication practices while adapting to the trends of globalization and the new technological revolution, the School is committed to cultivating outstanding reserve talent in this field. It aims to nurture individuals with strong political convictions, deep literary understanding, robust theoretical knowledge, and exceptional practical skills.
The School currently offers two undergraduate programs encompassing five specializations. The Journalism program comprises two specializations: Convergence Journalism and International Journalism and Communication. The Internet and New Media program comprises three: Intelligent Communication, Audiovisual Communication, and Brand Communication. The School is also authorized to confer a master's degree in Journalism and Communication as a first-level discipline, as well as a professional master's degree (MJC) in Journalism and Communication.
In terms of faculty composition, 79% of our faculty members hold doctoral degrees, and 71% have overseas study experience.
Journalism has been recognized as a national first-class program, with courses such as Fundamentals of Journalism Interview and Writing as well as Fundamentals of Advertising Design designated as national first-class courses. Additionally, Public Welfare Photography, Selected Reading of Marxist News Works, and In-depth Reporting have been distinguished as provincial first-class courses. Since 2020, the School has accomplished notable milestones,the School’s Digital Humanities and Intelligent Communication Research Center has been designated as a key research institute for humanities and social sciences in Shantou. Meanwhile, the Shantou University Research Center for International Communication of Chinese Culture has been approved as a social science research base in Guangdong Province.
Under a practice-oriented model of journalism and communication education, the School has established the “Teaching and Research Centre of Applied Journalism with Chinese Characteristics”, launched the “Fan Changjiang Class for Cultivating Excellent Talent in Journalism and Communication”, and implemented personalized teaching methods. As a result, our graduates enjoy an employment rate exceeding 90% and have built a strong reputation in this field.
Embracing the concept of integrated values-based education in journalism, the School has organized a series of events under the theme “Bringing China News Award–Winning Works to Campus”, including a sharing session on works recognized by the 34th China News Award and an exhibition of award-winning photojournalism. These activities aim to strengthen students’ sense of social responsibility, deepen their commitment to journalistic ideals, and sharpen their professional skills. The School has also hosted a range of events that bring together experts and scholars from both academia and industry for meaningful exchange, enriching the School's academic atmosphere.
