On the morning of June 9, 2026, a delegation from the School of Media and Communication at Guangxi Minzu University visited Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication, Shantou University. The two sides held a symposium, focusing on in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics including the development of the International Journalism and Communication program, talent cultivation plans, internationalized curriculum systems, and practical teaching models.
Attendees from Guangxi Minzu University included Qin Shengyun, Head of the International Journalism and Communication program; Long Teng, Director of the Communication Studies Teaching and Research Office; Qian Zhihan, Director of the Journalism Teaching and Research Office; and Hu Jiehong, a full-time faculty member in Journalism. Representing our college were Ding Zhibo, Vice Dean; Feng Yueji, Director of the International Journalism and Communication program; Hou Zhengdong, Director of the Laboratory Work Committee; along with relevant faculty representatives.
During the symposium, Ding Zhibo first extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the college. She systematically introduced the college's educational philosophy of "internationalization, practice-orientation, and forward-thinking vision," as well as its recent explorations and achievements in disciplinary development, collaborative education, and the cultivation of outstanding talent. She highlighted that the college has built a highland for cultivating top-tier journalism and communication talent through its "Fan Changjiang Class," and has organized the "Beijing Internship Program" for multiple consecutive years, along with the signature "Retracing the Northwest Corner of China" research and learning activity, forming a distinctive educational pathway that deeply integrates specialized training with brand-name practical programs.
Subsequently, Feng Yueji provided a detailed overview of the progress in disciplinary development and the curriculum design of the International Journalism and Communication program. He emphasized that the program consistently aligns with national strategic needs, highlights its professional distinctiveness in curriculum design, and has constructed a course matrix centered on cross-cultural communication and international communication practice. Through a model that consolidates foundations with required courses and expands directions with electives, the program strives to cultivate versatile international communication professionals equipped with a global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills.
Qin Shengyun introduced the basic information of the School of Media and Communication at Guangxi Minzu University, and in particular shared the development vision of the first international communication school at a Guangxi university, which was newly inaugurated this past March. She noted that leveraging the university's geographical advantage of facing ASEAN, the school is committed to building a hub for cultivating international communication talent oriented toward ASEAN. She expressed a desire to learn from our college's mature experience in developing the International Journalism and Communication program to optimize its own talent cultivation plans and curriculum systems.
The two sides also engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as building an internationalized faculty team, enhancing students' foreign language proficiency, expanding channels for overseas exchange and study, and establishing internship and employment platforms, reaching consensus on multiple fronts.
Following the symposium, the delegation from Guangxi Minzu University conducted a site visit to four teaching laboratories located on the 7th floor of Building E on our college's East Coast Campus. They highly commended the college's advanced and well-equipped teaching facilities as well as its systematic practical teaching environment.
This exchange visit aimed to strengthen the ties between the two colleges, enhance mutual understanding of their respective approaches to cultivating international journalism and communication talent, promote resource sharing and complementary advantages, and contribute to serving the national endeavor of strengthening international communication capacity.
